I visited Agadir for a weekend trip in January of this year with my husband and 2 teenage children, we flew from Manchester and since we were only away for the weekend we each travelled with a backpack so no extra fees for luggage. I found our flights using Skyscanner (this is the site I always use to grab my flight bargains!)

Agadir is Morocco’s largest seaside resort with a 10 kilometre stretch of sandy beach and an average flight time from the UK of around 3 1/2 hours, it makes for a great Winter sun destination.
When I planned our Morocco trip lots of people asked is Agadir worth visiting for just a weekend trip? And after making the trip, my answer would be yes, absolutely!
How many of your colleagues would be able to answer “I went to Africa” when asked what you got up to at the weekend on Monday morning at work!?
I found us a great apartment on Booking.com, which was modern and spacious and had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, so no waiting for the shower in the morning. The apartment was called Zephyr Agadir and it was just a 10 minute walk down to the beach and promenade. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful and I’d definitely recommend Zephyr as a place to stay while in Agadir. I’ll do a breakdown of our costs at the end.

If your looking for Moroccan laid back vibes without the craziness of Marrakech, Agadir is worth visiting. We enjoyed strolling along the promenade as a family and never felt harassed by any of the traders, a simple “no thank you” was sufficient. We felt very safe in Agadir, and found there to be lots of local families with children out and about until quite late on. My advice regarding currency is change a little at the airport when you get into the arrivals hall there are desks offering currency exchange. Then once you get to Agadir, use the ATM to withdraw more cash (we found the rates to be more favourable at the ATM).

We ate out mostly along the promenade at the main restaurants, the food was reasonably priced and there was enough choice to suit everyone. I also highly recommend the local beer – Casablanca, light and refreshing and very welcome in the Moroccan sun. Great beer for a non-drinking country!
We took the Danialand cable car ride up to the Kasbah for sunset on the Saturday evening, this is one of our highlights and the children enjoyed seeing the camels once at the Kasbah at the top. The views over the bay were beautiful and the candy floss skies at sunset were stunning.

We also visited Crocopark, you can find tickets for this on GetYourGuide. The crocodile park itself isn’t huge but a good place to spend a couple of hours, especially with children – we’ve never seen so many crocodiles in our lives! I was looking forward to seeing them be fed but unfortunately we were told that as it was Winter, they aren’t fed very often (due to the drop in temperatures, the crocodiles aren’t as active).

By far our favourite activity in Agadir was an excursion we booked to take quad bikes out into the desert. My children really enjoyed this and we ended up in our own private convoy with just the 4 of us following the driver, we stopped off for some Moroccan mint tea and got to see some Ostriches which was an unexpected addition to our day! You can find this excursion along with activities such as sandboarding on GetYourGuide, I’ll include some links below. The quad bike experience alone was worth the visit to Agadir, if you have teenagers with a sense of adventure they will love zipping along on the quad bikes.
For anyone debating is Agadir worth visiting? my advice is simple: go! but know what to expect, it’s more about relaxation than chaos. I think Agadir will be a destination which visitor numbers increase over the coming years, lets hope the flight prices stay at the same bargain prices I paid!
Our flights were with EasyJet and came to a total of £171.20 so just £42.80 per person!
Our accommodation was another bargain, as the apartment cost just £156.22 for 4 people for 2 nights. So from both a price point and the experience Agadir is definitely worth visiting.
